Overview

Vision

Californians with the knowledge, understanding and skills to make informed economic decisions.

Mission

To advance the economic literacy of the people of California.

Nine Principles of Economics

All of our programs revolve around nine principles, which are intended to help teachers and students see that economics permeates their lives and that a solid understanding of economic reasoning can lead them to more informed decisions in their personal lives and in their lives as workers/entrepreneurs, consumers/savers/investors, and citizens.

  1. People choose
  2. Every choice has a cost
  3. Benefit/cost analysis is helpful
  4. Incentives matter
  5. Exchange benefits the traders
  6. Markets work with competition, information, incentives, and property rights
  7. Skills and knowledge influence income
  8. Monetary and fiscal policies affect people's choices
  9. Government policies have both benefits and costs

Why Teachers Choose Us

We influence state and national standards that integrate economics into the K-12 curriculum
Teachers can trust that our materials incorporate California standards. We helped write a strong economics strand into the History/Social Science Standards, approved by the California Board of Education in 1998. We helped pass SB 1213, which requires all California students to successfully pass a one semester economics course before graduating from high school. We also worked with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing to develop Subject Matter Requirements to ensure that all teachers credentialed to teach economics have a strong background in economics.

We develop teacher-friendly curricula
Each of our curriculum programs is targeted toward a specific age group. Our programs focus on different aspects of economic and financial literacy including benefit/cost analysis, the rapidly changing global economy, the development of human capital through education, labor markets, product markets including profit and competition, financial markets, money and credit management, saving and investing, and financial markets.

We offer workshops, lesson plans and support for teachers
We provide professional development in economic education to California teachers. CCEE was able to provide its programs last year to more than 1000 teachers, reaching 300,000 K-12 students.

We get results
Our programs have consistently received 95% and higher approval ratings from teachers and have improved student understanding of the economy over virtually all socioeconomic groups tested.
