CALIFORNIA COUNCIL ON ECONOMIC EDUCATION (CCEE) and CFA SOCIETY LOS ANGELES (CFALA) Host Student Financial Contest

Students learn how to provide real-world financial advice

Los Angeles, CA, November 30, 2018 – The California Council on Economic Education (CCEE) with the support of the CFA Society Los Angeles (CFALA) are hosting the 8th Annual Financial Adviser Contest at the LA Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. The contest is an experiential learning opportunity for students to implement real-life investing principles with mock clients, strengthen their decision-making skills and help them become financially literate adults.

“This is a one-of-a-kind contest to help students realize that successful financial investment advising must be strategic and requires research. Additionally, it allows students to understand the art of weighing risks and potential returns,” says Allysunn Walker-Williams, President and CEO of CCEE.

CCEE partners with CFALA who provides generous funding each year and sends dozens of volunteer mentors, judges and graders for the Financial Adviser Contest. There is no cost for the hundreds of students and teachers who participate in the competition. “We look forward to sharing our real-world knowledge with the students. We are excited to participate and help teach about finance along with the value-added skills of teamwork, problem-solving and presentation skills,” says Asha B. Joshi, CFA, Managing Principal at Payden & Rygel Investments and CCEE Board Chair.

Participating teachers and students not only gain investment knowledge but have the opportunity to win cash prizes. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, December 4, 2018, from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm at the LA Branch of Federal Reserve Bank of SF, located at 900 S. Grand, Los Angeles, CA 90015. “CCEE is focused on continuing to provide real-world opportunities for students to learn about money and the economy to help them make sound financial decisions as adults,” says Williams.
