2020 National Economics Challenge Highlights

April 13, 2020 + April 21, 2020

As statewide school closures were rapidly implemented in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the California Council on Economic Education worked to quickly transition the upcoming National Economics Challenges state finals to an online format. Students from Northern and Southern California convened via Zoom in order to compete in both the intermediate David Ricardo division and the advanced Adam Smith division. About the National Economics Challenge

The National Economics Challenge is a great way for students to flex their intellectual muscle & test their economic content knowledge by competing with other students from across the state. All high school & middle school students are eligible to participate in their respective divisions. Teachers & students throughout California are able to participate regardless of travel or budgetary constraints. Each team will complete online exams that cover for a chance to participate in the National Semifinals and the National Finals, in Newark, New Jersey, where the title is decided in a heated competition in a quick-paced oral quiz-bowl round.

How It Works

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and statewide school closures, the National Economics Challenge will be hosted in an online format.

State Finalists go head to head in an online test to qualify the ultimate State Champion.

Travel to New Jersey for National Finals

May 16 – 18, 2020

The state champions travel to Newark, New Jersey to compete with their counterparts from across the country!
