Our Mission

The mission of the California Council on Economic Education is to improve California’s economic future by teaching economics and financial literacy, especially in under-served communities.

Our Vision

Our work aims to create intergenerational opportunity so that every individual can have financial and economic security and realize their dreams and aspirations

How it all began

In 1959, The California Council on Economic Education (CCEE) was founded as part of the California State University Foundation to provide training and standards-based curriculum in economics to California teachers. In 1999, CCEE became a 501 © 3 charitable organization.

Championing economics in California’s K-12 schools since the beginning

CCEE helped to pioneer the 1985 economics mandate in California, which is the law that requires every student to take a single economics course

We’re part of a larger movement

Despite California’s economics course mandate, there is still so much more work to be done within California in order to build widespread economic and financial literacy. We couldn’t do this work without our valuable partners.

With economic and personal finance education, we can make economic mobility and security possible for all Californians
